The Courage to Confess

Scripture Reading: 1 John 1:5-10

Reflection: Repentance sounds heavy, like a word for people who've done something dramatic. But most of the time, it's simpler and quieter than that — it's just telling God the truth. "I've been doing this because it's expected of me, not because I love You." "I've been present in the room and absent in my heart." That's not a scandal. That's an honest prayer, and it's exactly the kind God is faithful to meet. First John promises that when you confess, He doesn't scold you — He cleanses you. There's no shame line you have to cross to qualify for that. You don't need better words or a longer explanation. You just need to stop pretending your love hasn't cooled and say so, out loud, to the One who already knows. Confession isn't the punishment for a distant heart. It's the doorway back to a close one.
