Mission, Not Motion

Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:16-20

Reflection:

This past Sunday I shared that our church fed seventy-five middle football players. I was sick, exhausted, and foggy-headed due to a cold (what I didn’t know at the time was that it had developed into pneumonia).

But here's a deeper truth underneath the story: the food or the sickness was never the point.

The point was for something eternal. That's the difference between motion and mission. Motion fills a calendar. Mission fills a purpose. You can serve, host, decorate, and organize all year long and still miss it, if nobody ever hears why you're doing any of it. Today, look honestly at your own week. Somewhere in it is a gathering, a task, a routine you've done a hundred times before. God isn't asking you to add more to your plate. He's asking you to notice what's already there, and ask what it's really for.

Application Question: What's one thing on your calendar this week that has become routine — and what would change if you asked God to attach His purpose to it before you walked in?
