Held and Secure
Romans 8:35, 38-39
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Reflection: Jesus says no one can snatch you out of His hand, and then He adds that no one can snatch you from the Father's hand either. Two hands, one grip. Think about how safe that is. You may stumble this week. You may sin, doubt, or feel far away. But your security was never built on your grip on God.
It rests on His grip on you.
That is why you can lie down tonight without counting your good deeds against your bad ones. The One who had the power to forgive you also has the power to keep you. Rest does not mean carelessness; it means freedom. Because you are held, you can live boldly, love generously, and tell others what you know. Nothing in all creation, Paul says, can pull you away from the love of God in Christ. Not trouble, not failure, not death itself. Believe it.
Application Question: What fear or striving would change if you truly believed you are held securely in the hands of Jesus and the Father, and who needs to hear that good news from you?
