A Gift, Not a Bribe

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:8-9

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

Reflection: Imagine someone hands you twenty dollars and says, "Keep it, but if you slip up, I'm taking it back." That is not a gift; that is a bribe. Many of us quietly believe salvation works that way. We tally good days against bad days and lie awake wondering which side is winning.

Paul says otherwise. You were saved by grace, through faith, and it is not your doing. It is a gift. Gifts are not earned; they are received. Notice how simple that is. A gift only needs open hands.

Maybe pride has kept your hands closed, or guilt has convinced you that you are too far gone to take what He offers. Today, stop trying to pay Him back. Say thank you instead, and mean it. Receive again, with joy, what Jesus finished on the cross, and let gratitude, not fear, set the tone of your whole day today.

Application Question: In what area of your life are you still trying to earn what God has already freely given, and what would it look like to simply receive it?
