Scripture Reading: Psalm 105:16-22
16 He called for a famine on the land of Canaan, cutting off its food supply. 17 Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them—Joseph, who was sold as a slave. 18 They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar. 19 Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character. 20 Then Pharaoh sent for him and set him free; the ruler of the nation opened his prison door. 21 Joseph was put in charge of all the king’s household; he became ruler over all the king’s possessions. 22 He could instruct the king’s aides as he pleased and teach the king’s advisers.
Reflection:
Joseph’s prison was not a detour. Psalm 105 says God’s word tested him until the time came. Think about the waiting rooms in Scripture. Abraham waited twenty-five years, and when he tried to help God along, it cost his family dearly. Moses spent forty years in Pharaoh’s court and forty more tending sheep, learning leadership, then humility. David was anointed king as a teenager and waited a decade or more for the throne. None of it was wasted. Here is the uncomfortable part:
Sometimes we look in the mirror and see someone ready, while God sees what still needs tending.
That isn’t rejection. It’s preparation. Instead of resisting the hard season, pray this prayer, “Lord, cleanse me and shape me.” The waiting room may be exactly where He is doing work in you that no shortcut could accomplish. Ask Him what He is building in you, and then cooperate gladly.
Application Question: Where might God be preparing you through this season, and what is one thing you could stop resisting?
