Remember Who He Is

Scripture Reading: Psalm 145:8, 18

8 The Lord is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.

18 The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.

Reflection:

When life turns unfair, your feelings will shout that God has changed. He hasn't. In the message this past Sunday we were reminded that God's character is unchanging, and that is the first place to look when circumstances make no sense. Today's psalm lists who God is: gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, rich in love, faithful. Read those words slowly, then ask whether your situation could possibly cancel any of them. It can't.

Joseph couldn't see the bigger picture from a prison cell, but he knew who he served, and he kept letting his light shine right there behind bars.

That's what remembering God's character does. It steadies you when you can't see the road ahead. It also shapes how you treat people while you wait, with honor instead of bitterness. Before you rehearse the unfairness again today, rehearse his goodness first of all. Let that be the lens through which you read everything else.

Application Question: Which part of God's character do you most need to hold onto right now, and how might it change the way you respond to someone who has wronged you?
