Scripture Reading: Genesis 39:7-10
7 and Potiphar’s wife soon began to look at him lustfully. “Come and sleep with me,” she demanded. 8 But Joseph refused. “Look,” he told her, “my master trusts me with everything in his entire household. 9 No one here has more authority than I do. He has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God.” 10 She kept putting pressure on Joseph day after day, but he refused to sleep with her, and he kept out of her way as much as possible.
Reflection:
Joseph didn't resist temptation once. He resisted it day after day, and that detail matters. Faithfulness is rarely one heroic moment; it's a thousand quiet choices that nobody applauds. Notice his reasoning, too. He says no because of what he owes his master, and above all because of what he owes God.
His obedience grew out of relationship, not fear of getting caught.
And look at the reward for doing right: a false accusation. That doesn't seem fair, does it? Yet Joseph's faithfulness wasn't wasted, because God was watching every refusal. Maybe you're tired of doing the right thing at work, at home, or in a friendship, and it seems nobody notices. Someone does. God sees each quiet no and faithful yes. Your steady, daily obedience is worship, whether or not anyone ever thanks you for it. Keep choosing the right thing today, and let God worry about the outcome.
Application Question: Where are you tempted to give up on doing the right thing, and what small, daily choice could keep you faithful today?
