Last year Rhonda and I read through the book of Job. Life had thrown us a wicked curve ball and our knees had buckled. We were desperate to find peace in the midst of our storm. It seemed like the more we read Job’s story the worse our situation became. I wanted to quit reading his story! But, we pressed on. We sought God. We confessed sins. We begged God for relief. Even though it was one of the toughest times of our life, we did not curse God or walk away from Him.

Tough times will come to all of us. Whether financial, illness, or death, everyone will face dark days. When those days drop by for a visit, you will probably ask God “Why me?” Like Job’s friends you may feel like you’ve done something to deserve God’s punishment or wrath. God’s presence may seem far away. You may feel alone.

Paul asked, “Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death” (Romans 8:35, NLT)? Countless people have asked that question through the ages. When life is tough, we feel that God does not love us like he once did. That kind of thinking is wrong!

God loves us. While we may never know the answer to the “why me” quesion, we must place our faith in God and believe that he loves us. Paul wrote, “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39, NLT).

When hard times come your way, God has you in His hand!
