Seeking God’s Will
It seems to never end . . . seeking God’s will. For me and Rhonda these days it has taken on a new meaning. Since September I have found myself in the arms of a secular world rather than a church world. We are involved in a great church (Crossroads in Douglasville). I am serving as the director of small interest groups. I am grateful for the ability to serve. But, I miss the thrill of full-time ministry.
The past few weeks have been tough. I have been working a lot of hours with Protection One. The sales are tough to come by right now. The hours are long. And the pay is small! But, I am grateful to have a job.
It seems when things are going well or at least okay, life is cool and God is great. But as soon as things get a little rough and our faith is tested, we start to panic. We wonder about the future. We wonder if all we did for the kingdom was even recognized or acknowledged by God! The temptation to throw in the towel is greater during those times. In those moments our prayers seem pointless and meaningless. You just feel like you’re going through some kind of spiritual exercise that gets you nowhere.
That’s when God reminds me of Abraham’s story. God promised Abraham that he would become the father of a great nation. He waited and waited and waited and waited and . . . you get idea. Sometimes when we read the Bible we miss those little things like “God didn’t answer that prayer right then and there!” We forget that our spiritual journey is not about us – it’s about God and our relationship with him.
So, Rhonda and I are going to start a 40 day fast next month. Rather than watching television in the evening, we are going to spend time pursuing God. We are seeking his will. I don’t know if we’ll “know” any more at the end of the forty days than we do now; but we’re going to seek his will and trust him to lead us.
How about you? What are you willing to give up to pursue a love relationship with Jesus.
That’s awesome man and I’ve been there..Maybe not on your level now, but I’ve worked in a 85-95 hour job, berated for working so much and it’s gonna “cost you your family,” and then I left that job because it was costing my health and other issues; jobless. I had a little one-Jayden-and we literally wondered if we could have gas to get to the store. Luckily we lived 1.5 mile from the store and 3 miles from her job. It was tough but God and Home Team helped us pull through all the mess so it would turn into a message.. Look at where we are now thanks to God above-He receives the Glory, not us.. I know you guys are faithful to God and He has some GREAT things in store for your family. Remain faithful and doing what you always do. Love you guys!!
