Ever say this prayer: “God is great, God is good. Let us thank Him for our food.” I have. For the most part, I believe God is good. But, there are times I have questioned the “goodness” of God. When life gets messy, I will question God. I wonder if he really loves me. I wonder if I have done anything bad enough to deserve the heartache. I wonder how long the pain will last. I wonder why God let the bad stuff happen in the first place. I have gotten mad at God. I have told God how disappointed I was. I have even thought about telling God what he can do.

I don’t believe that I am abnormal when it comes to questioning God, getting angry at God, or doubting God. David did it; in fact, the Psalms are filled with questions, doubts, and fears. Other guys mentioned in the Bible did it. If we are honest, we all do it to some degree.

Here’s the point: It is okay to feel all those emotions, ask questions, get mad, or whatever. As you go through all that stuff, just remember that God really is good. He really loves you more than you will ever understand. He has not abandoned you. He has constantly been with you. He has carried you. His love for you has not changed. His purpose for your life remains. So, when you are struggling with life, tell God how you feel. Get it off your chest. Confess your sin. Accept his forgiveness. Take his waiting hand. Walk with him. Rest in his mercy. Lay in his grace. Experience his peace. And, before you know it the storm will have passed!

My friend and I were having a similar discussion today. Maybe part of it lies with building faith; maybe another part has to do with providing us with the experiences to fulfill His purpose for us.

It doesn’t all make sense to a human mind (or at least to mine) and we (at least I) wonder if the conclusions we draw really reflect His reasoning. Probably partially, but never fully — Because we are only human. He is amazing in what He provides though, whether we fully understand it or not!
