Ever get a craving for something? People crave food, recognition, sex, popularity, gadgets, new things (tools, electronics, toys), and weird things. Sometimes we crave a color or texture. There are some people who crave change. I guess the list is almost endless. I found this short list of things through a google search of “things people crave.” One thing was missing from this list. I did not see a single website where someone, just one person, craved God.

For some reason I find that interesting. I’m not surprised. But, I find it interesting. I’m reminded of something David wrote a long time ago, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God” (Psalm 42:1, NIV). David was saying that he longs for God. In this song, he remembered what things used to be like:

My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be:
I walked among the crowds of worshipers,
leading a great procession to the house of God,
singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!

Psalm 42:4 (NLT)

As he thought about how things used to be, he was sad and discouraged. I want to feel the way he felt. I want my heart to break for the people who are not attending church. I do not want to be satisfied with the way things are. I want to see more people finding real life in Christ at River Ridge (or any church for that matter). Just as David wrote that his hope is in God, so is mine. How about you?

Sam, I know today is Wednesday but I just wanted you to know that Sunday was awesome. I really enjoyed being able to be in the service and be a part of that. I could really feel God’s presence. Thanks again for everything that you guys are doing.
