Every follower of Jesus Christ should be growing deeper in his faith. Philippians 3:10 has become one of my favorite verses. Paul wrote, “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death” (NLT). In those few words Paul stated that he wanted a more intimate relationship relationship with Jesus Christ. All of us should follow his example.

Through the ages churches have tried to help people grow deeper. In my church world the prefered model included Sunday School and Discipleship Training in the early years of my ministry. Lately, I have been involved with churches that used a small group ministry model. I think both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Over the next few days I am going to write my thoughts on them. But for now, I am just going to say this: if you really want to grow deeper in your intimacy with Jesus, no class (no matter what the model is) will do that for you unless you want to grow deeper. And, I am convinced that either model will help anyone grow deeper if you really want to deepen your walk with Jesus Christ!
